I Am Thankful Today was birthed 20-plus years ago from the thought that each day I am given is a blessing. At this time, there was a lot of loss in my family, my community, our country, and the world. This furthered my thoughts on being thankful. At this time, I began to say, when someone asked how I am doing, I am thankful. When I asked how they were doing, they would pause and say I am thankful, too. Occasionally, people will ask me why I said what I said, and my response would be that the fact we got up is reason enough. On other occasions, people who were older would tell me I was too young to say that. My thoughts and response: in every city in the world, you can look at the obituary page in the newspaper and find people who wish they could say or do anything.
As the years passed, I noticed the effect that being thankful and voicing my gratitude had on others and myself. This blog is for anyone who sometimes needs a nudge in the positive or struggles to find positivity in their world. Please treat this space the way you do when you go shopping. You don’t buy everything on the shelves; you get what’s for you and leave the rest. Please do the same here: take what’s for you and leave the rest on the shelf.
